In 1982, Drs. Blom, Singer and Hamaker introduced the first tracheostoma valve for hands-free speech. Today, the Blom-Singer Adjustable Tracheostoma Valve (ATSV II), is a vital component in tracheoesophageal voice restoration following total laryngectomy. Commonly referred to as our ‘Hands-free valve’ it eliminates the need to cover the stoma with a thumb or finger to produce voice. An optional Blom-Singer HumidiFilter® Cap may be worn with the Hands-free valve to help reduce mucus secretions, coughing and dryness.
